Director's Comments: I have been traveling to the Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas off and on since 1962. It is one of the most unique and powerful places I have ever experienced. I wanted to make a film that goes in a different direction from traditional travel films to express the spirit and reflective qualities that a sensitive visitor can encounter in this remarkable environment. Big Bend is a unique place and one that is not "on the way to" anywhere else. We seek it out for its great beauty and its raw power to amaze us. Sometimes, it seeks us - calling to those who can see and hear the special magic of an enchanted land. |

I hope my audience gains this perspective along with me while enjoying the visual and musical beauty of the film. – David Crews |

Production Notes: The footage was shot on DVCam format with a Sony PD-100A. Some material is from 35mm slides from my library of photos taken over a forty-year period visiting Big Bend. These were scanned and panned and some motion grain added to blend them in with the video footage. Editing was accomplished on Media100HD on an Apple Mac G5. Adobe After Effects and Photoshop were also employed in post-production. The original music score was composed and performed on Apple’s LogicPro 7 sequencing software. Virtual instruments include EWQL’s Gold Symphony and Ethnoworld 2. Some natural sound (from the natural environments) from the DVCam masters was used throughout the film. |
